Imagine M2M without YOU and ME

“We have to remember that we are very much dependent on the Filipinos around us.  We could die a slow death if they chose to leave us.”

- Abdullah Al Maghlooth

Last week I came across an article that read, “Imagine a world without Filipinos.”  It was written by Abdullah Al Maghlooth in Alwatan Press, a local newspaper in Saudi Arabia.  I read through and in some ways it flattered my ego.  You’d be, too, if you work and serve other nationalities be in or out of the Philippines.  Yeah, yeah I could hear you clearly utter under your breath, “We don’t have the choice or else we’ll starve.”  That’s just one point though (not a lame reason, I should say) because I’m certain that those millions who flew out of the country seeking for greener pastures (oh, that old bromide!), would applaud me.  Obviously, I’m defending them.  I’m on their side because some of my relatives are abroad working doubly hard to earn a living.  Not something to be really proud of.

While still on the subject, here at M2Mschool where all teachers are Filipinos (of course), work with various reasons: support a family, for fun (?), destiny for others, passion to a few and the list goes on.  These petty and big reasons could all be explained with the notion of employment (mayhaps financial reasons would do, too – and why not).  I bet you all know what I’m talking here.  And I just couldn’t envisage if one day we all go on strike.  No, no, no.  I’m not saying we do it because, palpably, there’s no reason to do so and why go on strike if you can quit due to certain, demented reasons of yours.  After all, we’re treated nicely by our bosses.  (Now I could see them conspicuously grinning from ear to ear.  Sure, Ronald McDonald’s gonna be so envious.)

So, anyway, I’ve been teaching Koreans in this company for more than a year now.  And so far so good.  No, ’so far so good’ sounds chintzy. Look, I would have demitted a long time ago if not for my students whose winsome personalities tugged my heartstrings.  This may sound cheesy but then, I know, that some of you who have preferred to stay may have congruent reasons.  Do I sound exorbitant now?  That’s exactly what I’m trying to say.  And certainly you can name a number of wonderful things why you’re still here when you can be somewhere else.  I bet then (though I’m no good at gambling but my friend, Geraldine is) that this blog would be inundated with your lavish delineation about your students who you’ve grown to love (and hate – - – kidding.

Lest our students may have more sarcastic, back-stabbing feedback about us.  Geraldine knows.  You can spill a secret or two, friend.haha), teachers you’ve come to befriend (better more, loved), rules you’d love to break from time to time if only money is out of the subject (and the rest is up to you).  Whew!

Guys, I know, you have a lot more than what I have mentioned here.  What, actually, I’ve been meaning to say out of this not-so-long blog is to remind all of us (and our students plus our Korean boss) that this company can’t live without us.  Now, could you still imagine the world without Filipinos?  Or better yet, M2M without you and me?  Gosh, it’s gonna be an ugly world.  (Aw, sori.)

P.S. Hope our Korean boss is just too busy for this. (kkkkk)
